Terms of Service
1. Agreement
These Terms are an agreement between you and FortShadow LLC ("FortShadow", "we", "us") for your use of Alfred, including chatalfred.com, its calculators, tools, client links and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use Alfred for a company, you confirm you're allowed to accept these Terms for it, and "you" includes that company.
2. Who can use Alfred
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. You must give accurate account information and keep your password and sign-in methods secure. You're responsible for everything done through your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has accessed it.
3. What Alfred is, and what it isn't
- AI can be wrong. Alfred uses artificial intelligence (provided by Anthropic) to answer questions, read documents and fill in forms. AI responses can be incomplete, outdated or incorrect, even when they sound confident. Calculators use the numbers and assumptions you provide and published figures (such as tax and loan limits) that can change.
- Not professional advice. Nothing in the Service is financial, investment, tax, accounting, legal, insurance, lending, appraisal or real estate advice, and using Alfred doesn't create a client, fiduciary, attorney-client or advisory relationship with FortShadow. Decisions about loans, investments, taxes, insurance, contracts, court deadlines and legal matters should be confirmed with a qualified, licensed professional and the official sources.
- Not a decision-maker. Alfred doesn't approve loans, set rates, issue policies, file documents with courts or agencies, or guarantee any outcome. Pre-approval letters, settlement statements, invoices, pay applications and other documents you create are yours to review, edit and send.
- Legal citations. Alfred is instructed not to invent cases or citations, but you must verify any legal authority in an official source before relying on it.
4. Your content and your clients' information
You keep ownership of what you put into Alfred, including messages, documents and client files ("Your Content"). You give FortShadow permission to store, process and transmit Your Content only to run, secure and improve the Service for you, as described in our Privacy Policy. We don't sell Your Content.
If you upload or enter information about other people (for example borrowers, clients, contractors, policyholders or parties to a case), you confirm that:
- you have the legal right and any required consent or notice to share it with us and our service providers;
- you'll only use it for lawful purposes and comply with the laws that apply to you, which may include the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act and Fair Housing Act, state privacy and licensing laws, and professional rules (such as attorney trust account and confidentiality rules);
- you won't upload full Social Security numbers, full bank or card numbers, or other highly sensitive identifiers unless truly necessary; and
- you're responsible for the people you share client links or sworn statement links with.
Uploaded files are deleted automatically after a period of time (see the Privacy Policy). Keep your own copies of anything you need.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to: break the law or help anyone else do so; commit fraud, including fake documents, altered statements or misleading loan, insurance or court filings; discriminate unlawfully, including in lending, housing, insurance or employment; harass or harm others; upload malware or try to break, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the Service; get around usage limits, security features or payment; share your account or resell the Service without our written permission; or use the Service in violation of Anthropic's Usage Policy. We may suspend or end accounts that break these rules.
6. Plans, payment and cancellation
- Free and paid plans. Alfred offers a free plan and paid monthly plans with different usage limits. Usage limits reset on a schedule shown in the Service and may change.
- Billing. Payments are processed by Stripe. Paid plans renew automatically each month at the then-current price until you cancel. You authorize us (through Stripe) to charge your payment method. Prices may change with notice before your next renewal.
- Changing plans. When you switch between paid plans, the difference may be charged or credited right away.
- Cancellation. You can cancel anytime from "Manage billing". You keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for, then move to the free plan.
- Refunds. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable, including for partial months or unused usage.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, your account may move to the free plan until payment succeeds.
- Taxes may be added where required.
7. Security and Alfred Vault
We use measures like encrypted connections (https), scrambled password storage, optional two-step sign-in (Alfred Vault) and automatic file deletion. Client tools may require Alfred Vault. No system is perfectly secure, and you're responsible for keeping your devices, passwords, passkeys and backup codes safe.
8. Third-party services
The Service relies on other companies, including Anthropic (AI), Stripe (payments), Render (hosting), Resend (email) and, if you choose them, Google or Apple sign-in. Their services are governed by their own terms. We aren't responsible for third-party websites or services.
9. Our property
The Service, including its software, design, calculators, text, logos and the Alfred name and robot, belongs to FortShadow and its licensors. These Terms give you a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the Service while your account is in good standing. If you send us feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, FORTSHADOW DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T PROMISE THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR THAT ANY RESULT, CALCULATION OR AI RESPONSE WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, FORTSHADOW AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES AND SUPPLIERS WON'T BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, BUSINESS OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) $100. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
12. Indemnity
You agree to defend and hold harmless FortShadow from claims, losses and costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, your dealings with your clients or others, or your breaking these Terms or the law.
13. Ending your account
You can stop using Alfred anytime and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or others. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as ownership, disclaimers, limits of liability and indemnity) survive after your account ends.
14. Changes
We may update these Terms. If a change is significant, we'll give notice through the Service or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Alfred after changes take effect means you accept them.
15. Law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Oakland County, Michigan, and you and FortShadow agree to those courts' jurisdiction. Before filing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally.
16. Other terms
If part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a right isn't a waiver. You can't transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, sale or reorganization. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement about the Service.
